SCEXO ... the perfect blend of SCX10 and Exo Terra Buggy

SCExo Bio:

This build started out as a 2012 Jeep Axial SCX10 kit. I absolutely loved the Jeep top (original, pictured), but for a while now I had been mulling over doing a baja/rock racer type build, but couldn't find a pre-made cage I really cared for. At one point I came across a post in an RC forum post that inspired me to take the basic idea and put my own spin on it and so... the SCEXO was born.

All chassis and operational parts were used to the fullest from the original Jeep kit. The Exo cage was chopped 21mm and only two body posts from the Exo cage had to be modified slightly to be a complete match with no loss of cage or strength. Panhard link and upper suspension links were custom added for less steering torque twist.

I was going for a baja/rock racer feel and had a very particular idea of the size of tires I wanted to use - which is why the 1.55" rims and Baja Claws were perfect for this build. I just combined a Wraith bumper set with some smarts and came up with a mini-slider and plenty of room for lights in the front.

I bought a front-mount battery plate with CMS and shortened the plate it to accept a shorty stick, hard pack LiPo. There is a 3,000 kV brushless 25a ESC powering this beauty, it's got plenty of power and is geared just right to jump/crawl.

Inside are scale laser-cut 4-point seatbelts I found across the pond and handmade shifter, 4wd shifter, and both locker shifters were added to give the full rock crawler effect. The seats have been lightened by over 50% and are worn to add realism.

For the body and exterior, I started with candy blue on the inside of acrylic, which I had already cut and formed to the chassis, and finished with a bright white. A few of the chrome accents were painted candy blue to match and look really sweet!
